Our Story

From Stroke Survivors to RE:MOVE

RE Neuro Recovery Hub was created by Jacqui and Tracy — two stroke survivors who met in hospital and discovered that recovery is about so much more than simply leaving hospital alive.

Our stroke journeys are different. Our challenges are different. But our shared experience brought us together and ultimately inspired us to create something we both felt was missing.

Jacqui and suffered her stroke in December 2024, aged just 48. What followed was a long hospital stay and the beginning of a recovery journey she could never have imagined. She was left with significant weakness on her left side, problems with her arm and hand, fatigue, cognitive challenges and the enormous task of learning how to navigate everyday life again.

Tracy has faced her own extraordinary journey, experiencing two TIAs and three strokes in December 2024, just at the age of 51. Like Jacqui, she understands first-hand that stroke recovery doesn't follow a straight line — and that progress can sometimes be measured in the smallest of victories.

We Met Because of Stroke

We met while we were both patients in hospital.

Neither of us would ever have chosen the circumstances that brought us together, but from those circumstances came a friendship, a shared understanding and eventually an idea.

After leaving hospital, we both continued rehabilitation and began discovering the realities of life after stroke.

There is incredible work being done by the NHS, charities, therapists and community organisations. But we also recognised a difficult reality: recovery doesn't suddenly stop when formal rehabilitation becomes less frequent or comes to an end.

For many survivors, that's when another challenge begins.

Private neurological rehabilitation can be expensive. Motivation can be difficult when you're exercising alone. Neuro fatigue can make traditional exercise environments overwhelming. And perhaps most importantly, stroke can be incredibly isolating.

We wanted to create something different.

Why We Created RE:MOVE

RE began with a simple idea:

What if stroke survivors could continue working on their recovery together?

Not a hospital.

Not a clinical rehabilitation centre.

Not a traditional gym environment.

But a welcoming community where people who genuinely understand life after stroke can meet, move, practise, encourage one another and celebrate progress together.

RE:MOVE is built around peer-led rehabilitation, social connection and shared experience.

Our sessions combine gentle, structured rehabilitation activities with time to sit down, have a cup of tea or coffee, talk and connect with other people who understand.

Because sometimes the person who understands your frustration best isn't necessarily the person with the qualification.

It's the person sitting beside you who has been there too.

RE:BUILD, RE:TRAIN, RE:COVER TOGETHER.

We know how important professional physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals are to stroke recovery. RE:MOVE is not designed to replace them, and we do not provide medical or clinical treatment.

Instead, we want to help bridge the space between professional rehabilitation and everyday life.

We want people to have somewhere they can continue practising what they have learned, build confidence, stay active, and connect with others.

We also recognise the enormous role played by carers and families.

Stroke doesn't only happen to one person — its effects ripple through families. That's why creating opportunities for carers to meet others, talk, take a break and feel part of the community is important to us too.

Turning Something Difficult Into Something Positive

Neither of us expected stroke to become part of our lives.

There have been difficult days, setbacks, exhaustion, frustration and plenty of moments when recovery has felt painfully slow.

But there have also been milestones, laughter, friendships and victories that might seem tiny to somebody else but can mean everything to a stroke survivor.

RE:MOVE grew from those experiences.

What started as conversations between two stroke survivors has grown into a community supported by survivors, carers, healthcare professionals, local organisations and charities who also recognise the importance of continued rehabilitation and connection.

Our ambition is simple.

We want nobody navigating life after stroke to feel that they have reached the end of the road simply because one stage of formal rehabilitation has finished.

There can always be another goal.

Another movement.

Another conversation.

Another reason to keep going.

We are Jacqui and Tracy.

We are stroke survivors.

And together, we created RE:MOVE Neuro Recovery Hub because recovery is easier when you don't have to do it alone.

RE:BUILD, RE:TRAIN, RE:COVER TOGETHER.
